CDs and DVDs are ideal for storing important data, but you can not label them properly, if you store a large amount of files, because there is no room on the physical disc. This issue can be the source of serious headaches if you are trying to locate a specific file. Fortunately, the solution is quite simple. With Visual CD, you can catalog your discs and their contained data. Instead of loading each disc, one by one, to find a certain file, you can use the program's search function to locate the item immediately.

Installing Visual CD on your computer is not difficult and it will not take long. The setup wizard will guide you through the usual configurations, like selecting a destination folder, creating shortcuts and a Start menu folder. You will not have any issues regarding compatibility or system requirements and you will not have to install any additional services.

Essentially, Visual CD takes snapshots of file and folder structures and it stores them as files, allowing you to explore the files without loading your CDs. It is also possible to catalog folders, from local partitions, if you want to find something faster. The layout and functionality of the interface are similar to a standard explorer window, but the software's built-in features provide a more flexible control.

To catalog a disc or a folder, you must hit the New option, which is located on a toolbar. A new window will show up, on which you can specify a source, a name and a location for the catalog file, a volume label and more. Catalogs are saved as separate files, but you can add them to a favorites list, so you won't have to load them on the interface one by one. Favorite catalogs are displayed in a separate tab. You may organize them in different folders, rename them, load a catalog, just by double clicking the item, or view their properties.

The available options make it possible to create MP3 playlists, extract thumbnails, verify or update catalogs, convert them to another format and more. You can also batch export your catalogs. The software allows you to include or exclude certain details, like file size, duration, title and others. Catalogs can be exported as plain or rich text files, in CSV or in HTML format.

Pros

You can browse the files and folders from your CDs, without loading any discs into your computer. With its effective search function, the software will let you know which CD contains certain files. Additionally, Visual CD gives you access to a series of useful features, for exporting catalogs, converting them and more.

Cons

There are no serious issues to encounter. While using Visual CD, you will never spend more than a minute to locate your files. Thanks to its simple and effective features, you will always know which folder or disc contains the files you are looking for.
